A2/A2 Protein Milk Explained
A2/A2 protein milk is an option slightly different from everyday cow's milk. There is new evidence from scientific studies in children and adults that show signs that A2/A2 protein milk may be easier to digest without discomfort.
The majority of cow's milk on supermarket shelves contains two beta-casein proteins, called A1 and A2/A2. However, the A1 protein is a result of an early genetic mutation that the majority of milk-producing cows today have.
But there are cows that still produce milk only containing the A2/A2 protein, making A2/A2 protein milk a viable option today. A2/A2 protein milk is not a genetically engineered product, rather it could be seen as the "original" version milk, considering all cows originally only possessed the A2/A2 protein.
While the A1 and A2/A2 proteins are nearly identical, the subtle difference in their amino acid structure may be the reason why A2/A2 is proving easier to digest in scientific studies. A possible application of this A2/A2 protein milk is in baby milk formula, where the A2/A2 protein milk is easier to digest for infants since the milk is not all that dissimilar to the protein found in breast milk.
